The Bad Brains Cookbook

So this is a thing that I've wanted to do, pretty much since this, and when my friend Anonymus posted about how difficult it is to make sandwiches I figured I actually can make this happen, because I too am very good at sequencing recipes, I too am a good cook, and I too have a bad, bad brain.

I want to make The Bad Brains Cookbook. A resource from one badbrain to another.
I want to make a cookbook of hyper-sequenced recipes, and attempt at making a collection of recipes in less than 5, 10 and 20 steps, where getting the ingredient counts as a step.  With visual aids and diagraming, with better instructions than vauge sensory ques, at the very least noting how things are supposed to smell and look and sound and taste and feel when done. (Does anyone know what the heck "soft peaks" is supposed to mean in the context of meringue? If so TELL ME!)

The Bad Brains Cookbook as a project is contingent upon two things (actually-probably more, but two main things here and now): whether there is actually any interest at all for it, and funding.

Because creating a resource would require time, and trial cooking, and materials, and more time for writing and editing, and server space and an address. (And sometime way off in the future, maybe coding an app for smartphones/iPads/whatnot as those become more and more common as assistive tech.)
And I am not interested in doing a funding drive unless there is interest in the Bad Brains Cookbook to start with. So tell me, are you interested?

ETA: The Bad Brains Cookbook has a blog of it's own - badbrainscookbook.blogspot.com!

  5. Yes,please! Most of the time I can make food and stuff, but limited ones, but sometimes I can't even get cereal after like 7 hours of trying to make my brain work.

  6. Yes, please! Sometimes I can cook limited foods with not much issue, but sometimes it takes hours to even manage a bowl of cereal, so this would be lovely!

    1. Hi! This is greatly appreciated, and I will be in touch.
The Bad Brains Cookbook is happening, although we do not as of yet have a timeframe.

  8. Hello there! I think I'd like to help with this project, if it's still running. ^_^ I graduated from culinary school back in 2008, so I can help with any questions you have about anything. I also have ADHD, and I really find it helpful for recipes like cakes and such to be listed in grams. There is no more confusion over mixing up weights because my brain gets stuck on pounds and weighs up a pound of salt in stead of an ounce. Thankfully I catch it before I put it in (always recheck your weights), but I've had places fire me because they think I cannot read.

    1. This project is going to happen, I just got side-tracked on other life issues.

Listings in grams is a good idea, although I find them personally confusing. (Because it adds steps to the recipe, ie "get scales - measure ingredient - add ingredient", compared to "get measuring device - add 1 dl of ingredient") I don't know imperial at all, so no cups, pounds, pints or ounces from me. I am liable to list things in volumes, litres, decilitres, centilitres and the likes. (And then there is tablespoons - but that is 25 centilitres, and teaspoons - 15 centilitres).
My thought about it all was to make a converter, so you have the option of getting imperial and SI, volumes and weights, according to your preference.

    2. The Company's Coming cookbooks list everything in both metric and Imperial, so that could work out okay. I know certain conversions right off the top of my head (like 454 g = 1 lb). Here in Canada we switch readily between the two but our metric for volumes is limited to Litres and milliLitres. If you use centi and deci people will be really confused. I think a converter is a really good idea.
